Yul decides to be a bucket drummer

Crashing my brother’s performance

My brother (The Drummer Gordo) visited us again recently and did a performance at a cafe in Seoul. This was the first time Yul had really seen him playing the bucket drums like this.

Yul was asleep on my lap when my brother started his performance but soon woke up. He was immediately fascinated and during the break Hugh let him try the bucket drums. But when my brother went to perform again, Yul decided he was going to be part of the performance too! Luckily the audience loved it and thought it was adorable. Also note that his toy dinosaur had to be with him too!

Busking in Seoul

My brother visited for a weekend and went busking in Hongdae. Unfortunately we had torrential rain for most of the weekend, but it cleared up enough for him to go busking for a short time. He has performed in many countries but this was the first time in South Korea. A lot of people commented later saying they wish they had known he would be playing, but until the last minute we really were not sure if he would be able to. He will come back sometime though. My brother is a full time drummer (and also plays real drums of course), he plays in bands but also regularly does bucket drumming. A video of him playing went viral a few years ago and since then he has been invited to play at events around the world. He also does a lot of live streaming now where he teaches some drumming techniques or streams his busking.

Interview with the Drummer Gordo

Yes… this is actually my brother! So you might have seen him in that video that went viral, which as we mentioned in the video, isn’t online anymore unfortunately. But you can go check out his YouTube Channel here.

We filmed this early in morning and didn’t have proper lights, so I apologise for the quality.

Here is a commercial he is in:

Since it was a long interview we did have to cut some bits. Some more things related to the saga of the guy who profited off the viral video, he also tried to claim ownership of the bucket drumming in this commercial! Unbelievable right? All he did was upload a video of my brother (as did many other people) and yet he believes he owns everything my brother creates. While having a viral video sure gave my brother a big boost, it’s unfortunate that it also created these problems.

If you have some more questions for my brother, you can leave them here and next time I see him we can do a follow up video!

My brother the drummer

Recently someone filmed my brother busking with his bucket drums and that video got over a million views.

I’ve been bugging him to make a YouTube channel for a while and he finally did.

Those those curious about him. He is a drummer and plays in several bands as well as busking (street performance) in Sydney. He uses buckets to simulate the sound of real drums. You can also like him on Facebook here.

Also, if you are Japanese or speak Japanese, you can write him a message in Japanese as he speaks it well (he studied at the Tokyo School of Music).
