Seoul Life Episode 4

Martina comes to visit her old stuff! Simon and Martina (Eat Your Kimchi) were in Korea for a few days and Martina came to visit our apartment (Simon was sick unfortunately). A lot of our furniture is from their old apartment and their studio. It has been such a big help to us to already have this furniture and not having to buy it all once we moved to Seoul. We are really lucky to have them as friends. We actually talked about when we first met in Sydney years ago, and how far we’ve come.

Going back to the countryside was a bit strange. There were things that were comfortable, but other things that were weird. Also not really having a purpose because its not our home anymore leaves a weird feeling of not knowing what to do.

Rainy season has started! There is no way to not get soaked during this time. Luckily it’s not every day, just a more days of torrential rain during this time.

I saw a quote that was something like “Marriage is asking each other what you want to eat until you die” haha. Hugh is sneaky as he always gets in first and asks me what we should eat so I can suggest 10 things that he can say no to. Although I can be a pickier eater, he is pickier when choosing what we should eat because he takes his food so seriously.

Fan Meet and Christmas Decorating

We had a last minute fan meet in Seoul on the weekend. They can be difficult to organise sometimes but this time there was the perfect amount of people and we had it at the You Are Here cafe. Thank you to everyone who came! It’s really nice to put some faces to screen names and everyone was so lovely!

I also filmed a tiny bit of Christmas decorating at Simon and Martina’s apartment (from Eat Your Kimchi) because we stay with them when we visit Seoul. From the video it seems we were just trying to put Christmas hats on Spudgy and Meemers…

I didn’t film the meeting with publishing company because that’s all boring stuff. But the book will be released soon! To see more of our Seoul trip, subscribe to our vlogging channel.

Eat Your Kimchi Interview – Part 2

Part 2 of our interview with Eat Your Kimchi! We talk about advertising, what their families think and they answer a few questions from readers!

nicthumb (80x32)How do you feel when people use adblock or tell other people to use adblock?

simonthumb1 (80x29)It’s something we understand from a consumer’s perspective because ads are very obtrusive and they do ruin the experience and it’s something that I wish wasn’t necessary-

martinathumb (90x30)Well okay, we’re trying to think of a way… because I understand that. I read a lot of manga online and it has obnoxious ads everywhere and I’m like “I shouldn’t but…” and I’ll block them so I can actually read it. But we’re trying to think of something now, which we saw from another YouTube website, where it allows you to remove the ads and stuff from our website but people have to pay once per year – like $5 or $10 or something.

simonthumb1 (80x29)I know that it sucks, like I’d rather offer everything for free but you can’t operate that way, so we are trying to find a way to create a better user experience for people.

martinathumb (90x30)But it gives them a choice-

simonthumb1 (80x29)If they are interested. Like a premium version.

martinathumb (90x30)Like if they don’t mind ads and it doesn’t bother them then go for it: it’s free. And we are actually very careful with our ads, like we don’t want ads coming up like “Date sexy Korean girls”. So we know our advertisers and we are trying to think of a way to help people that don’t want the ads.

simonthumb1 (80x29)And some people have complained about some of the ads that are generated. Like some of them are generated ads and we have an advertiser manager and when we hear a complaint we are like “Well this ad was offensive can you remove that ad?” Because we can’t see every single ad, every country has different ads. So we understand you (to the fans)… we just wish you didn’t…. *laughs*
