I never expected less of you, but I want to thank you for making a video that takes teenage girls seriously and addresses the sort of unhealthy obsessions that are easy for teenagers to fall into without mocking them. We need more people saying things like this from a compassionate place.

I haven’t seen this video yet, I just was reading your post and I’m glad that you mentioned the point about a lot of kpop stars being emotionally stunted due to their training at such a young age. While it doesn’t stop my love of kpop, it has definitely crossed my mind a few times that a vast majority of kpop stars have not grown emotionally either by some of the comments they’ve made about women/men or even their perception about things.

And granted there are a few exceptions-such as BOA, Rain, and probably others that we don’t know on a personal level that could be really well-rounded individuals; but it’s hard to decipher unless you see them when the cameras go off. I have other thoughts on marketing from record execs, but I’ll save that one for later only because I’m seeing that my post is so long :).

But I have to also note that the celebrity world in general, no matter what part of the continent it is, is a very surreal world that’s not just relegated to kpop. Celebrities in general can be crazy from Bollywood to Hollywood.

Hahahaha, I was so obsessed with Hanson (especially Tay, obvs!) and saw them during their mmmbop tour 🙂
Actually it was just before the internet and we still got all their photos out of those old teenybopper magazines, kkk.

And I’d grown out of it long before the pregnancy/marriage (I didn’t even know about it, and was so surprised years later when I looked them up years later and realized they had all so many kids! strange!)

Such a great video! You got it spot on by saying that a star in a relationship with a fan has all the power and it would be an unhealthy situation. I also think that the harsh truth is that these stars can choose from many, many other stars or equally beautiful ‘normal’ people to date or marry so wouldn’t give a ‘madly’ in love teenage fan a second thought even if they met. It must be hard for them to commit to one person when there are so many other gorgeous people around them. I think it was TOP who said that he would never date a fan even if he really liked her – the man’s got a point. P.S. I only realised that Taylor Hanson was good-looking last year. Think I must have been blind in my teenage years! LOL
