I grow up in HK and never studied abroad. I learnt English from Chinese, American, Australian, British teachers over the years, and with the fact that I watch tv a lot, I pick up different kind of accent from time to time. I remember a newly met friend(Chinese who was born and raised in Canada) saying "Wow.... That's a lot of accent in one sentence!!" after I just casually introduce myself ~~~XDD Well I guess that means I haven't got an accent? Hahaha....

agreed. I find that coming home from being overseas after over a month can be an.... interesting experience. the accent sounds even stronger when you have been removed from it for some time.

There is so many scary accents! omg like the scouse accent is so hard to understand...
I'm quite lucky because i don't think i have any regional accent to be honest, because i'm from the midlands. However people from up north think we sound like we are from down south and then people from down south think we sound like we are from up north if that makes sense xD And same, i don't like how the slang language is developing, it literally makes no sense at all... it's normally chav language :P
The whole dialect around the country is developing so much though, it's a bit worrying to think about it sometimes.
and that must of been confusing, i agree, like it's ok if it's a small word but how you surpose to konw what the man was saying xD I guess languages are always changing though, either for the better or for the worse ^.^

Exactly! the stereotypical accent is great but if people came to England they would actually realise it's not all that xD I think it's just the difference from the normal accent that people like, and partially a proper attraction xD bit it depends. The media influences people too much ^.^ it brainwashes people to be honest, but i can't really talk because it probably does that to me too xD

Oh god yeah, there are some hilariously terrifying British accents that are as far from posh as it gets. Saying you like British accents is like saying you like vegetables or something. It's honestly that diverse. Some sound nothing like each other. It's such a wide group. If anything, the most common accents aren't the ones people tend to be familiar with from films. The one thing that drives me mad here is that in an accent that seems to be growing, th is now pronounced as f (in words like think) and v (in words like then). This just really grates for me. It's such an 'English language' sound if that makes sense, like it's not very common in other language so to lose it seems a shame. It can also just get confusing. When my husband and I were redoing our floor, the man at the shop told us we needed to buy a 'freshhold' and at first we were like what on earth is that, but of course, he meant threshold. Usually from context it's really obvious but with a less common word, it can be properly confusing.

I do know what you mean. Like I'm totally aware there are all different British accents (but I think quite of young teenage girls don't realise this) - it's not like everyone speaks the same there, and when someone is like "omg I love British accents" it's really only a certain one they like- like one from movies. I'm sure if they heard a lot more there would be some they wouldn't like as much, and it's the same as in Australia, a lot of Australians actors have milder accents but in some areas of Australia I would challenge anyone to say that accent is hot haha.
