Last Saturday we had the first snow of the season in Seoul. Last winter Yul was just a tiny little baby so didn’t see any snow. This was the first time he had really seen snow falling. He was quite fascinated by it. The snow was mostly gone by the end of the day but I hope we get some more soon so he can play in it.

Yul’s first time in the countryside for Lunar New Year!

We headed back to the countryside for Lunar New Year recently. It was the time Yul had been down south to the area where Hugh’s parents live, and where we had previously lived for 2 years. Usually we would catch the bus but decided to take the fast KTX train instead as it’s more comfortable for traveling with a baby.

I also hadn’t been back in the countryside for a while as I hadn’t been able to travel when pregnant. It was great to get out of Seoul and breathe the countryside air again. It was also a lot warmer than in Seoul. Hugh’s parents had seen Yul once before but this time they got to spend a whole week with him. They were over the moon and so incredibly proud to be grandparents. Hugh’s sister and her husband live in the area as well so we got to spend some time with them too.

As you can see in the video, Yul was given lots of money! It is a tradition for children to do a big bow for relatives and are then given some money. We will probably use it to buy some things for him. We also did the Jesa ceremony in the morning which is a way to pay respects to deceased family members. And of course we ate lots of food. In future we will have a car and be able to drive down south more regularly hopefully.

We were sent some suitcases from SHAPL, which could not have come at a better time! I was dreading pulling out our old battered suitcases and had been meaning to buy some more anyway. Hugh is starting an exercise and diet plan as part of a collaboration with another YouTuber, who will be his personal trainer. They planned on filming today but it was snowing. That didn’t stop them. He will be vlogging his fitness on our channel over the next 6 months.

I really thought it was getting warmer here but apparently it snowed the other night! It’s been nice and sunny, but icy air! I’m completely over cold weather, so I’m really glad we are going to Australia soon.

Winter has also been a constant cold hands battle between us.

He has been known to destroy sandcastles… and now he is destroying snowmen! We haven’t actually had any decent snow here but when we were coming back from Seoul, at the rest stop, there were several snowmen.

We are back home and trying to catch up on comics, videos and book stuff! Yes the book will be released soon!

I’m not coping with winter here!

It will be even worse when we go to Seoul tomorrow… Seoul is even colder than where we live.

Also, we are going to have a small meet up in Seoul on Saturday afternoon at the You Are Here cafe. Check social media for exact time later.

I did not hike up the mountain because my body would not be able to handle it at all. They all had fun though!

For Lunar New Year we went up a small mountain to visit my husband’s family’s ancestral graves. It was quite serious and solemn, so it was completely bizarre to see that squirrels have been using one of the burial mounds as a place for their nuts! There was a hole with small pieces of branches around it, which my father-in-law had to fix.

We were in the middle of the woods up a mountain in winter and even though I knew we weren’t far from the town it still felt very isolated. It didn’t help that I started thinking about the Barrow-wights in the Fellowship of the Ring (the book not the movie) when I saw the hole that had been made. I’m great at freaking myself out.

Now who is the stubborn idiot?!  Me!!

I think I was tricked the first day we arrived in Korea because it wasn’t tooo cold so I thought “I can handle this!”

Then it got a lot colder. Okay, warmth over fashion!
