But I am now wondering: is it THAT bad over in Korea so that many people wish to get out?! That’s a bit of an eye-opener for me, as I thought they were doing better than China, for example.

My kids were all born right here in the good ‘ol US of A.

Maybe he didn’t mean to insult your husband. In Kenya for example there are 42 tribes in some of those tribes it is customary for men seeking women for marriage to give dowry to the brides family now depending on the social status of said family, dowry can comprise of livestock to cold cash, or even cars or apartments etc…. If not then he’s a total doosh for implying that to your hubby

oh, I see…thanks! my husband is also Korean, but we are living in Europe, Hungary, and it is more or less the same. he can get residency, than permanent residency, than citizenship…and it is quite difficult, but I guess we are still lucky maybe…they didn’t examine anything about our relationship. the most personal thing was, he should have wrote an essay about his last 5 years, but not necessarily connected to our relationship.

No not automatically. You have to apply for a partner visa to get residency which can be quite difficult and you can still be refused. Once a resident, more steps are needed to become a citizen.
