Well, not about beaches, but about general geographical ignorance. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve had the conversation:

Person: Where are you from?
Me: South Africa
Person: Oh which country.
Me: South Africa
Person: No, which country (repeated like a million times when I say South Africa, often with an exasperated tone – them getting exasperated, and then finally me)
Me: The Republic of South Africa
Person: Oh, that’s a country?
Me: Yes
Same person a while later: So what’s it like in South America.

I’m not even joking around. I have had this conversation so many times. So many times.
