China also has a good swimming culture but the only place to swim are indoor pools .However a lot of people can swim and parents want their children to learn.
I'm from Florida so its very hot and have a lot of beaches so our swimming culture is very strong. I took swimming lessons at 1 year and could swim on my own without floaties at 2 years old. BUT I dont like swimming very much actually.

My (Chinese) boyfriend also does a terrible British accent, by the way.

I'm a Canadian living in Japan. In Canada, we swim in pools (big, small, and any in between), the ocean, rivers, lakes, creeks, man made lakes, etc. In short, swimming is pretty common. Here in Japan, it's generally not okay to swim in lakes and rivers, I ask, but I get weird looks. The rivers aren't very clean (although I do see people with skidoos or jetskis on the rivers...), so they aren't very appetizing. Although, in the wilderness you can find clean rivers or creeks and people often camp around them... In the mountains, the rivers are fairly clean, but cold, and most people think you'll catch your death swimming in cold water. There are lots of onsen (hot springs), but you can only sit in those, swimming is not encouraged or accepted. Children learn to swim in school, which is different from Canada, where swimming lessons are usually done outside of school. School pools are pretty small and the students clean them... I usually worry about the cleanliness of said pools. Indoor pools are generally crowded (with old people) and quite expensive. That leaves the ocean, which is very popular, especially in the summer. The ocean is my go to swimming place in Japan, but you have to find little known or obscure beaches for the best experiences.

In summary (sorry for the length!), I come from a place where I can swim practically whenever and wherever I want, but I live in Japan, and it's definitely not the swimming culture I'm used to. :( In the summer the beaches are really crowded and likewise, so is the water. I try to avoid main beach areas until peak summer time is over. So while my swimming options are severely limited, they seem like a dream compared to Korea.

That is the magic of hair - it grows back! haha. Hmmm long hair?? I have the thought that long hair on guys only looks good if they are either A) a pirate B) a medieval knight/ historical warrior type or C) an elf. Otherwise it creeps me out a little - but i think that is just mental scarring from an old housemate who was VERY proud of his long, glossy "princess curls" (as he called them). haha.

hehehe--it's funny, when I get angry I get more British. Or more precisely, I'm much more likely to slip from General Aussie accent to Refined Aussie. Quite bizarre--not idea why :P hehehe
