i LOVE counting the coins in front of the cashier, because I expect [suspect] it to be annoying for them [sometime it is, especially when they plan on finishing their shift]. However i do it for small amounts. i don’t think i ever counted more than 2 lei [about us$0.70 ?] BUT there have been instances where people paid in coins for their purchase of more than 100 lei [ about us$30?] the problem? we only use coins for the cents [1, 5, 10, and 50 cents], 1 leu [=100cents] is a bill. The last time this happened it was at a large supermarket, and there were many people waiting in line at all the cash points, and i was tired. The person doing it was looking at the rest of us LAUGHING. I wouldn’t do this though.

I normally keep the nicer-looking coins and spend the uglier-looking ones. ^^ It’s easier on my purse that way. But at times I tend to accumulate it, so a few times I count out the right number of coins when I’m buying something.

I love coins! Because i alwaysget surprised by just how much I have collected after a while. So i’m always conflicted as to whether or not to use them, or keep saving them. Are they creepy coins because they’re creepin’ around in your wallet?

In reply to thatsheagirl. Not much so anymore. There are a few convenience stores that sell a handful of snacks for under 500 won, but the prices here have gone up a lot in a very short amount of time. It's hard to find even a small cup of ddeokbeokki for 500won anymore. Inflation sucks.

In reply to Andy. Yes, often he will try to explain something and say "In Korean we say this....." but then it takes a bit of time trying to explain what it means because there is no equivalent in English, and sometimes there is no good explanation in English. He tries hard to explain though.

In reply to Andy. Oh absolutely. Korea is incredibly practical from their coin usage to their heated floors. It all makes sense. Americans kids look at a convenience store clerk and ask, "what can I get for 50 cents?" And they are shown little to nothing. But Koreans have a plethora of options with ₩500.

I eat at the same place frequently so the cost is the same. Usually I count out the coins before I enter the building and put them in my pocket so that I wont have to make the cashier wait for me to count them out. ._.

I tend to prefer getting rid of my coins. They make my wallet so heavy haha. If not, I’ll pop it in a donation box or my piggy bank (then again, I’m a charity cause in myself with my horribly frivolous spending habits)

I’m kind of with your husband on this one. Though usually I count out the coins before I go shopping and look for something to spend them on 🙂 It’s particularly useful when using the self-serving lanes in Tesco, as I don’t feel I’m bothering anyone and just shove the coins into the slot

That’s what my piggy bank is for. Then I collect the coins and bring them back to the bank for cash. ^^ Plus my piggy bank is adorable. Cute things make boring tasks so much better, kekeke. ^^
