also to note is that dogs in general have a very low stature traditionally in korean culture. animals such as cows and pigs were very highly regarded whilst animals like dogs were not regarded very highly. in rural areas, even to this day, there are farms that just use dogs as food recycling machines. for example, farmers feed dogs with leftover food and then slaughter them for meat when they are a few years old. obviously this practice is becoming rarer and rarer but i know this was very common in the past.

When they say dog "baby", it means the infant or baby of any types of animals. It's not used for babies of human. Korean also have words for puppy(강아지). They dont call puppies dog baby. Its just insulting way to call a person who is worse than those animals.

In reply to <a href="https://www.mykoreanhusband.com/dog-baby/#comment-734">Hannah Ashley</a>.

exactly. Korean swears are really strong, I avoided using them for the longest time because i just couldn't understand which were okay and which were really bad. Only now after nearly 2 years of living in korea am I starting to get the hang of which is which lol

Dog baby in Korean is more like calling someone a mother f***er in English...I would even argue to say that English does not have a strong enough curse word to translate...

the word for baby in this instance is actually a word used more often than not for animals, so to call a human by that is kind of rude by itself. It could be equated loosely with the word 'offspring' in English, so in Korean the insult is essentially calling another person the offspring of a dog. Obvisouly this is quite offensive to most.
