True. While I lived with a family friend as a paying guest in their apartment I spent a year seeing the growth of a baby girl (who was 3 months when I moved in) and playing with her. I spent quite a significant time with her in the day time as I was a student and my classes were in the evening and at nights. One of the best times of my life. She is 4.5 years now. I am back to my country now. I guess, next time I meet her, she will be a big girl and probably won't have much memory of me.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Yeah, lot of things change.

Ah yes children are hard work, they may test your patience and everything else but they are so worth it. I only have one daughter, she's 17 now, and I wasn't at all keen on having kids but once I had one of my own it's so different from viewing it as an outsider. My younger brother wasn't good with kids at all, expect for my daughter, so it is now a huge surprise that he now has two boys (3 and 1 years of age) and says he wants to keep going until he gets a girl and is now a stay at home dad while his wife goes out to work. Lots of things change.

Looking at how lovely the celebrations for little Alice turned out I think that Hugh is going to have to bite the bullet on that one and accept that he will want the same for his children. I think a tradition like this should be upheld, so many traditions get lost...we should hold onto some of them at least.

It probably just depend on how many guests you were having. We don't have any family in Korea and our friends all fit in our small living room. That's why the grand ballroom option just didn't make sense in our situation ... There's as many Dol as there are children (and parents;)) As long as you and Alice enjoyed your day, whatever you prepared was worth it, right?

Haha. We had the party at an event hall so most of the preparation is done for us.. but we still had to pick out and upload photos for a slide show, organise a smart phone invitation, choose gifts for guests, wrap the gifts, we then sent more photos for this special photo guest book machine, organised hanbok for Alice, hair and makeup and photo shoot on the day.. but the hardest part is actually getting the baby to have enough sleep before the party and keeping her in a good mood when there are a lot of people all focussing on her. It was tiring and unexpectedly time consuming but worth every effort!
