I am a korean girl who found this post accidently! It’s so funny to see you guys discuss about this. But u can say to stop that if you don’t want. We don’t bite you!!lol and it’s completely okay when, you can’t answer with your mouth full.
The cultures are not soo important to get along people. I mean, we won’t think it’s rude or won’t hate you if you reject to do so. u have rights to say no if u hate something. I even get anoid when my parents give me foods on my rice boll or when try to feed me a food what i hate. I yell not to do haha

My mum does it to my husband too! And sometimes when he doesn’t open up to eat it, she’ll tap his mouth with whatever she is holding and say ahh!

This happens to me all of the time by older people usually. I remember when I first came here I was like….”am…am I supposed to eat it right from her hand??” lol. It’s a sign of affection, the mother’s really are super hardcore mothers here. Older ladies are always taking care of younger people, even if they aren’t related too.

In reply to Andrew Watson. That is kinda an excellent idea for getting revenge on someone. Pretend you are being nice by putting all the food together for them, but put all the food they hate or the bad bits of food! Then shove it in their mouth!

If my boyfriends mother offers the food I’ll eat it directly from her hand but when it’s his father I tend to just take it from him and then put it in my mouth myself. As for the amount of food. I just bite what I can then quickly cover my mouth and keep it there while I’m chewing. That way if anything is slipping out no one can see it and I can just wipe it from my hand after.

I don’t have this issue since I don’t know any Koreans personally but I do find it so difficult to eat the samguyopsal in one big bite. How the heck do they do that? I do try since it’s less messy but my mouth is small and I feel like I’m going to choke too, haha.

Yep. Hyo does this to me often. I felt the same way at first, but I’ve gotten used to it. If one of us is out at a meat restaurant, whoever is not cooking will feed the other some food until they finish lol.

In reply to Janine. Talking with a mouth full of food doesn't really have any meaning, per se, it's just not really considered rude by the majority of Koreans. My husband says he thinks it's because Korean is spoken more with the throat, so food doesn't fly everywhere, whereas with English, we speak with our tongue and teeth and a lot of air, so food has more potential to go flying.
