Living in Korea, I dream about being in an American grocery store at least once a month. The most memorable dream involved me finding a hidden gourmet cheese shop in my apartment building. I was devestated when I woke up!

I miss avocados sooooo bad. I also used to eat them almost every day and it was kind of a shock to come to Korea and there be virtually no avocados. The ones they do have are one of the following: 1. ridiculously expensive 2. one of the least tasty varieties 3. so overripe you could barely even make guacamole with it or 4. some combination of the above.

I have dreams about good mangoes and papaya. two of my favorite fruits that have befallen the same fate as avocados in Korea.

I think they are all imported. Korean food doesn't require any avocados and there doesn't seem to be an interest them. I guess it's possible they could be grown in some part of Korea but it's not something people feel like they need.

From your comment about experiences of other with avocados in Korea, I am curious. Does Korea grow avocados or are they imported? I know they grow well in the same climate as oranges and I know Jeju grows those.
