When I went to Germany for a year, I didn’t know any German, so the exchange organization set me up with a “language boot camp” for the first 4 weeks. They spent so many hours trying to teach us the grammar instead of the vocabulary, which really annoyed me. Someone can talk with imperfect grammar and still be understood as long as they know the words. Our teachers didn’t seem to get that.

My dad writes the cutest grocery lists, changing squash to squish and snack to snake. He even draws little mushrooms when he’s too lazy to write the words!

I always confuse the spelling and pronunciation of “to desert”, “a desert” and “a dessert” …my nightmare 😀
