Instead, I am watching Mr. Gwon belt out Frozen tunes. I started cracking up in my kitchen.
I like how he gets really into it. It’d be even better if he dressed like one of the characters….

Money is given by elders to children – I think it depends on the family at what age they stop it. For example, if I wasn’t there my husband wouldn’t have received much money but it was a novelty for family to give me money so they did. There wasn’t any community things here, really people go to their parents’ homes and spend the time with them. We didn’t attend any religious gatherings, but we did visit ancestors graves to pay respects. Cooking on the floor is an Asian thing but not done all the time, in this case it’s because they get out the big portable cooking thing rather than doing it on the stove. It’s easier to do it on the floor. The food set out like that is for display when paying respects for family members that have died. It’s packed up after that much eaten later on. The dinner we had later was in Korean style of sitting around a low table together with lots of different dishes. There was a photo of my shoes on facebook and instagram 🙂

In reply to katiehannah. That's right, I think most dramas and tv shows really only show city areas, but the countryside is quite different so I'm glad that we can show a different side to Korea.

Adorable! Also can I say I love that you’re showing us more of the countryside? I only watch kdramas and kentertainment shows that take place in Seoul/other cities in South Korea.

I think my future MIL may get me one when we get married this summer! I’ve never even tried one on and I am excited to do it even more so from this video!

Ohhh, you’re right: that does look like a little girl’s fantasy! I’m glad you got to have that experience. About the New Year’s money: how does that work? Is it from all elders to all juniors, or usually only to legal minors, or from anyone to anyone? Is there any meaning behind it other than wishes for a prosperous year? Were there any community holiday activities in your local town, or was celebration limited to individual families? Does the Gwon family attend any religious new year gathering? If so, what’s that like? That feast! Cooking on the floor: is that an eastern-hemisphere thing, or an Asian thing, or a most-places thing? I imagine it’s much more sanitary if you don’t wear your shoes in the house (food for thought)…. Do you all sit around that table, or is it more like a buffet? Oh! And your shoes are beautiful! It’s a shame you can’t see them in most of your pictures. Maybe in future take special accessories shots for those of your fans who are girls? Please? Anyway, happy new year to you and the entire Gwon family!
