Sorry you’re receiving such hate comments. It kind of boggles the mind why anyone would ever think acting hateful to another person would ever be appropriate.

I think you have a really good perspective on addressing these types of situations and navigating complicated issues relating to culture.

In reply to Alistair Troublesome. There are people who never leave Korea and don't experience that, but there are many many people on working holiday visas or student visas in other countries. For example Hugh lived in Australia for about 6 years, so was very aware of all the offensive stuff people can say.

If i ever get married to someone from East Asia and decide to share our married life, that’s exactly what i will call my blog [or whatever it will be] (c) ‘life with a chinky eyed person’ >_> i’m copywriting this right now, so you know, the idea won’t get stolen BWAHAHA [and i hope my future partner won’t get too upset about it, lol]

Sadly, i have the feeling East Asians who grew up in East Asia didn’t experience racism of this form. :c only those who grew up in ‘white’ countries might be more offended by those comments [i think]

those kind of comments are the reflection of the person who is saying and spreading this hate … that why I believe that treatment and teraphy is the answer for a better world … anyways !!! Its better to be like Polianna and laugh about it !!!

Good for you. Racist people are so dumb – gotta take them with a pinch of salt sometimes! Growing up I learnt a lot of great comebacks to those same old insults. My favourite was when someone was trying to mock me with an ‘Asian’ accent (you know – because all Asians are from the same place and are exactly the same apparently) or would start doing weird ‘kung fu’ moves. I’d say, “Sorry I can’t understand your accent.” or “I think you should practice more – you’re pretty shit at martial arts.”
Sometimes someone really backwards will say, “You speak English so well!” and I chuckle because I probably did better in English at school than they did (and wrote more essays at uni)!

It’s a shame that people will do that :/ it’s just….why even try to intentionally make people feel bad? It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Meanwhile, I’m glad you can make light of it like you do c: I ought to take notes. Typically I opt for the “annoy the hell out of them” option and talk them up for whole paragraphs at a time with logical debate until they say something along the lines of “you do know I’m just trolling right? Get a life!” To which I reply “thank you for the philosophical advice. You ought to learn from it to” and leave the conversation ^^ it’s fun at least. I’d much rather be annoying than mean back, like most people would be.

I completely agree with you. Laughing is the best you can do in this cases, of course. But it’s sad to know that there are people like that nowadays, trying to hurt others just because they have some kind of issue that may not be even related to you.

By the way, I’ve been following your blog on and off from quite sometime. I love it 🙂
