I used a heat pad before and my mom told me to not put it directly on my skin (I’m not sure if the instructions said to do that, or if she just knew it would be really hot, especially since I was putting it on sensitive skin). Even with it being on my clothes instead of my skin, it was really really hot. I couldn’t wear it >_<

Salonpas is right, and in the old days in Japan, they had a brand called Tokuhon(?). Same sticky dark stuff on one side of the patch.
