Point of views and cultural differences are very interesting, I don’t like to be address in formal way even by younger people because it makes me feel old. Whenever someone said to me “Usted” (“you” Spanish formal) I always asked them to use “Tu” (Spanish Informal). The only people I don’t ask to use informal speech are Mexican and South American because they speak in formal way even to children (you teach by example) but if they are from Latin America or Spain I always asked them to address me informally from the first conversation.(I live in New York, lots of people from different culture)

Aww poor Hugh – he looks really annoyed about it 🙂 I have a similar problem. I look younger than my years age. Which would be frustrating when I want to purchase alchohol. Would growing a beard help him to look older?

Oh man, people ask me all the time: “Are you in school? You really shouldn’t be charging so much for lessons” (I’m a cello teacher). “I have two degrees and I’ve been teaching for ten years.” “Oh sorry, you just look too young too teach.” ><

I have always had people expect that I was older because of how well I “behaved” and carried myself. It would have been fine if it was fun but usually meant more expectations and responsibility. UGH!! Can’t win

The weird thing that happens to me is when I was 20, I never got carded for alcohol. Now I’m in my 40’s, they card me. Does reverse aging exist? SMH… I don’t care for my parents to speak down to me as if I’m still 16…

I’ve definitely even had times in Australia when people around me thought I’m much younger and have been condescending haha… at some point I’ve had to be like “um I’m 8 years older than you”.

omg I get that so so much. It’s annoying cos I don’t want to be broadcasting my age all the time but people at work would always forget I was older and treat me like i’d just graduated. On the plus side when i’m 60 everybody will think I look 30.
