that’s much easier to accept now that you explain it like that. Definitely the Korean version is better. It’s just disappointing that they chose an English phrase that is deliberately Konglish. It doesn’t help anyone here understand English better… it just perpetuates these sort of juvenile understandings and communications in English instead of moving forward. I just don’t understand how you can have so many native English-speaking expats in a country and yet they still chose such a weird phrase.

yeah but the problem is that the word “saw” is often a hard one for Koreans to pronounce anyway, so that’s kind of what the cartoon at the beginning of the article is joking about. The sound of the word “saw” is subtly different from the sounds they have in Korean, the closest vowel sounds being an “eo” (pronounced kinda like “uh”), or “ah”. Saw is kinda in between and therefore some Koreans are inconsistent and it comes out weird.

Okay, great, because nowhere else can two individual co-exist 😉 But seriously, if they wanted to convey this particular meaning, they should rather opt for something like “Me – Seoul – You”… although it still sounds quizzical 🙂 But anyway, I personally prefer the Korean version of the slogan 나와 너의 서울, which is more like “My and your Seoul”, right? At least it’s how I understand it… correct me if I’m wrong but it gives a better impression of a place where two individuals can co-exist in spite of the differences between them. It gives me a better feel of a place that is welcoming and tourist-friendly 😉

yeah that’s actually what I thought, too… OR they just meant something like “get on and see Seoul with us” but wanted to make it shorter and it ended up ambiguous as usual 😛
