I think a question more important than "Do you like kimchi?" is "Do you know kimchi?" When I was living in Korea and hanging around Koreans back in the states they would always phrase it like that in English. I know Korean and I know what they're directly translating from, but I've decided that when I move back I'm going to respond with "Who kimchi is?" to force the discussion of how to say 'Have you ever tried kimchi?' or 'Have you heard of kimchi/Do you know what kimchi is?"

I think it took over a year before I could eat kimchi. This was before I met my husband so by the time I met him I could eat it quite well. If I had to choose though, I think my loyalties lie with vegemite...

Wow. I could totally relate to this.
My first experience with Kimchi was when I downloaded a recipe off the internet and I tried making it myself. That was when I was 13. LMAO. It was a total disaster. (I did it with Kimbap too). I totally couldn't stomach what I made. My mom even got mad at me because it 'stank' the kitchen.
Well, I should have tried eating it in a restaurant. I was a huge K-fan back then (7 years ago) but there weren't any place to get Kimchi in my area at that time.
Over the years, I've tried it here and there, and I must say it wasn't love at first taste.

Maybe I fell in love with it around the fourth time I tried it. And now, I'm craving to have it all the time. ALL the time. :D
