They can use those browsers but if they try to do things like online shopping or banking etc, it won’t really work. Also they are just so used to IE that they don’t realise there are other browsers that are technically better.

hehehe oh dear. Well now you have proof that it’s not good, in fact it’s so bad that it’s an election issue!

Korea is very sensitive about appearances, and as such dramas generally tend to depict what is trendy with the upper-middle and upper classes(regardless of the depicted social status of the characters). I’ve noticed with dramas that usually the main characters all have the same phone, and it’s usually the latest release of the trendiest phone in Korea at the time of the filming. Same goes for the apartments, clothing and accessories; while I haven’t payed particular attention to other technology in dramas, I’m sure computers would be no different. Macs are mostly used as a statement of a person’s social status, more so than for the functionality, as they are quite pricey and much flashier compared to domestic brands.

Actually maybe it’s fine for the type of music stuff he is doing, but if they need to do banking or buying stuff online perhaps they have to switch to a computer that has IE.

I was wondering about this because all so often I see characters in dramas using Macs…like all the time…but Samsung and tablets etc. are so huge in Korea. So I am curious to see how K-drama computer usage reflects real life Korean computer usage.

Hi Chris! I asked my husband and he couldn’t really think of any friends that even had Macs. He seemed to think because Koreans tend to buy South Korean brands there just isn’t the market for Macs in Korea. Perhaps some other readers here can shed light on this and whether there are Koreans with Macs and how do they get around the Internet Explorer issue.
