Yeah always discovering little things. It’s one of the differences between dating a Korean Australian man who has lived most of his life in Australia and a Korean Korean man who lived most of his life in Korea.
For Korean Australians, they usually more familiar with Australians culture than they are with Korean culture. So you don’t run into as many cultural differences. Or they already understand why some things are different.
But for a Korean Korean man, there are constantly things they aren’t used to. But mostly it’s fun, we have some good discussions about cultural differences.

Bahaha I;m sure you’re reacting fine, considering it’s all embedded in the cultural differences. It’s so amusing to read your posts because the little differences are shown quite a bit.

haha it’s true that we are more likely to react violently. I don’t know how Korean girls really react- maybe they know immediately the action is one of romance. But even with my husband my first reaction is like “ow!! what are you doing!!!” or if he wants to pick me up and carry me, “put me down! put me down!” So yeah, I’m not reacting the way I’m supposed to…

Oh! That does make sense probably. I do notice that Koreans seem more cautious towards white westerners (from variety shows – sadly all my knowledge comes from there or others’ stories).

It’s funny how there are times when I do watch those scenes in Kdramas, my heart goes all fluttery and I fall for the whole “aww” romance thing. But if someone I did not like did that to me, I’d probably become physically violent very quickly. It’s seems very, very romanticised in Kdramas and I remember seeing multiple times on variety shows where ladies have specifically asked ‘hot’ guests/idols to do the whole ‘throw me against the wall and kiss me now’ thing.

Oh, I realised what the difference is: because I’m a white western girl, Korean guys are unlikely to do this to me because in general they are kinda scared of white girls! They probably also realise the cultural differences and know not to do it. But with my husband- our relationship is a big mash up of both our cultures so he has no problem with doing that to me. So probably Korean girls experience random guys doing the arm grab thing. Me… not so much haha.

Ah I see. I was curious because I recently watched Super Junior’s Full House and they were explaining the difference between the Korean and Western culture, and acted it out. Heechul acted as a girl at the bus stop and Kangin was a random guy I guess. When the ‘girl’ didn’t reply to him when he asked for the time, he just grabbed ‘her’ wrist. So I was unsure whether this really happened in real life.

hmm I had to think about this. I think I’ll have to say…no. Random guys don’t do this. It’s only been my husband who has done it to me.
