The thing is, atleast for the Japanese, those who are only into domestic stuff aren't exactly interested in learning English or meeting people from other countries.

"For international Kpop fans, they may be surprised to hear how little people actually listen to Kpop."
It actually is, lol. I made some online friends from Japan. they're both a few years older than me, and we talked about what music we're into.. When i confessed i liked japanese pop and rock music they were VERY surprised {i don't only listen to this type of music, lol}. I was very surprised too when learning they weren't listening to japanese music - or not as much as i thought they would. They confessed they listen to international music more [they meant songs in English from English speaking countries]

I then realized the situation might be similar in Korea. Well, truth be told, Romanian radio stations play a lot of Romanian music, but i don't know who is willingly listening to it [like on the ipod/ music player] - i know i'm not :P

Perhaps, music sang in other languages sound 'cooler' than native language? Maybe if people were to travel or move to other countries would be more willing to listen to songs in their native languages just to be remembered of the places they grew up in? who knows?

Pop-culture in general can be harmful after a while. In my first few years of college and even now, I learned that I had to keep myself really busy so that I could put my time into growing as a person. I'm glad I did too, I'm not as interested anymore because I focused my interest in my studies, working, and meeting real people and making real connections. I found that I've grown so much and I'm much happier. Plus, I also think if you're so in love with dramas or kpop (or pop-culture from any culture or country) you become less open to reality, which is full of wonderful things, people, and complex, beautiful cultures.

i didn't watch the video (sorry >.< only have internet access in school right now since laptop broken) but the writing reminds me of "paris syndrome" a bit :P where like (mostly japanese) people who go to paris are so shocked and horrified at how different the real paris is from the romantic idealized image of paris that they have like some sort of breakdown D:
