In reply to <a href="https://www.mykoreanhusband.com/lamb/#comment-20708">b8amack</a>.

Hugh now likes lamb a lot more because a Korean guy friend who also lived in Australia cooks it and talks about how good it is.... the cooking is no different to how my family has had lamb before - when he has turned his nose up at it - but now there is that social acceptance from peers he finds he likes it!

I just cooked lamb for my Korean wife. Before cooking it, she kept giving me surprised looks that I had bought lamb, insisting I take special precautions when cooking to "cover up the bad smell". Like Yewan below, I assumed it was because the word "양고기" refers to both mutton and lamb, and she had probably smelled mutton before, and would see the difference once she tried lamb.

Anyway long story short, I was dead wrong. She took a few bites before looking visibly disgusted and saying she couldn't get past the smell of it. Looking back, when she ate lamb at a Greek restaurant with me she loved it, but then I don't think she knew that was lamb.I think it's an ingrained opinion, like all Chinese food being oily, etc.

Originally Albany, I now live in Perth. Missing Seoul though! It was quite the shock to go from living on Sinchon Rotary to suburban Perth... And you? This side of the Blue Mountains I gather, though clearly not as far West of them as I am ㅋㅋㅋ

I suspect that it's because in Korea most lamb isn't lamb, it's mutton. And I would totally agree with that--lamb is delicious, mutton is not. I remember there was a really awesome lamb bbq restaurant near my first apartment (close to 마포역) the Ajumma there was so chuffed that I was from Australia, and rural Australia, just like her lamb that we go double the serving for the same price. ASSAH~~
