Korea is a Confucius society where respect must be shown to people older than you or in a higher position than you. If you are with friends (by friends I mean friends the same age as you) you can do it with one hand but I find it’s just better as a foreigner to always do things the respectful way. Giving or receiving anything should be done with 2 hands. In my Korean class when we were handed something, like just sheets of paper, we were supposed to receive with 2 hands. If an object is too small to use 2 hands you put your left hand on your right arm and receive it with your right hand so you are still showing respect. It becomes quite normal after a while. There are times I’ve done it when paying for something in Australia and it’s like “oops, don’t need to do that.”
