This comment is super belated cause I'm stalking your archives... I love your blog :) Anyway, the guys here (Singapore) do 2 years of National Service too. It's like a rite of passage for them, where they go from boys to men. Like in Korea, army buddies become tight for the rest of their lives. You can't evade NS and anyone who somehow manages to do so is alienated at best and despised at worst, as conversation in a group of guys usually turns to reminiscing/complaining about NS days.

Aww Junsu <3 I'm such a big fan of TVXQ, so I gotta say I like his version more, heheh

Tears of Heaven must be such an impressive, heart-wrenching musical. Ahh, if only it would come to Brazil... T_T

In reply to <a href="https://www.mykoreanhusband.com/mr-gwon-recommends-4/#comment-4111">Some Korean guy.</a>.

Thanks for your input.
It's very similar to the military in the United States, my father was a marine for 5 years. He described the food as 'scraps' saying other branches of the military had better quality food. He mostly lost weight from the training, having to run everywhere around base.
My father is very big guy at 6'4" (194cm), he really likes to eat, even if the food quality was poor, he was hungry.
As for mentally, I wonder if it's the same. The officers would verbally abuse their soldiers. Treating them less than dogs. I would say life is tough to be a solider.

Mainly the latter. The quantity of each meal is quite a lot(too much calories they supply), while the quality of it is poor, not tasty. Because the cookers are also soldiers and they don't care the tastes but do care the safety(freshness) of foods.
20 kilo loss is possible because every single day of being soldier is very hard both physically and mentally. I mean not only the training but the whole day and night.
But I'm sure 20 kilo loss means that the navy made him more healthier, revalancing his body.

Anyway, many Korean guys regard the military service as the interruption to their life for 2 years.

Both I think, they train really hard and the food isn't good. Many Korean guys say before they go to the military service they don't care about chocopies (the little Korean cake things) but after one week in the military they would die to eat one haha.

Wow, 20 kilo lost from the military... did they not feed them anything? Or was it from the extensive training?

I really love the Mr Gwon recommendation, it's very good to learn a little bit of Korea through the music and the music is very sad, indeed. And I imagine that military service is not a easy thing, but perhaps is good to make you a better person. I guess what is different in the photo is Pororo. I think is so cute! A lot of good things for you both! Hugs and xeros! ^^

Wow, such a beautiful song. Sometimes I think about the military service in Korea, because its so different here in Brazil. I think every man feel sad when they need to go to military service. 2 years is so much time, you can lost all your friends and the world can change very much in that time. Well, of course there are good things, like the friends you make and how much you grow as a person. And also I'm a big fan of Junsu, so that post have a special importance to me ~keke
