I don’t think so. Your Korean friends are used to seeing other Korean or Asian faces. They may have seen a million Asian faces in their lifetime both ugly and beautiful faces that their standards develop. It’s probably the same with Caucasians. The Caucasian guy there is not that attractive, but the Asian girls think otherwise.

Korean girls wouldn’t know a handsome man when they see one however us Aussie girls do that’s why Mr Gwon was snapped up by the lovely Nic. I’m sure there’s a lot of woman including me who would love to find & marry a fantastic man like Mr Gwon. The only person you should listen is your wife because that’s the only person apart from your parents that should matter.

I think the reason the girl said “handsome??” was not to be mean, but more a teasing way of showing they are friends. I see that happen along among close friends, it’s typical to say “You??? (nigaa?) Come one~!” pretty irrelevant of whatever the compliment was. The Korean phrase for thus playful hazing-like behaviour is 갈굼(갈구다).Especially when it’s the opposite sex, friends do it a lot to show they’re not romantically interested in each other.

Another thing, they seem to consider guys that look like Daesung and K.Will ugly but I’ve found them to be quite attractive, even more so than the other members of Daesung’s group, Big Bang. Yes, the other members are just as good looking and visually appealing but Daesung, and K.Will, were a lot funnier in the stuff I’ve seen and that made them more handsome in my eyes.

I honestly do not see what is so ugly about Mr. Gwon. He has a pretty nose and eyes. His hair looks great. He is nowhere near chubby in America. He IS attractive visually and even more so in the inside, which can’t be seen until getting to know the person. I don’t want to be disrespectful or anything but Korea needs to calm down with all this “you’re ugly if you don’t look like Won Bin or Taeyeon or Suzy or Siwon or etc.” Admittedly, Korea isn’t the only place with this problem as the world as a whole has this issue but I feel like Korea highlights it more and makes it more obvious. But then again, I haven’t been to Korea so everything I’m saying could be completely wrong and therefore not worth being read. Except for the part on Mr. Gwon being attractive. That’s true.
I just really think that beauty isn’t a set face or look. From what I see on Variety Shows and the like, you’re not pretty if you don’t look a certain specific way. Those idol groups that are considered as having the prettiest members, I often have trouble telling the members apart because they look SO alike.
So, in conclusion: Mr. Gwon, you are not ugly in looks or in personality. For whatever reason that girl said you were ugly, let’s just say she hasn’t learned to appreciate the beauty in others, specifically the beauty that was right smack in front of her face, which is yours.
But hey, your wife does and that is all that matters.

It’s so strange for me sometimes living here in Korea, because the standard is so strict. My Korean galpals will always say I have a “low standard” when it comes to men’s appearance. I’m a Big Bang fan, and I love Daesung to death, and when I told one of my friends he was my favorite and I thought he was handsome, she actually hit me and said “ARE YOU CRAZY?!” One of my friends dates a guy that she calls “Ugly guy” and when she showed me his picture, he looked cute to me.

Also, Mr. Gwon’s reaction is the cutest thing ever.

Most of my friends are like that. They’re always talking about 80% looks and 20% music. I asked them if they listened to K.Will before and they were like “he (the looks) didn’t really catch my eye though..” And I was just sitting there, speaking in my mind “Did you really just say that?” Yes, looks ARE actually important, but music is more important. If they look extremely hot but if their music suck, they’re not going to make it. But if it’s the other way around, they have a chance. Whenever I ask “Do you like ____?”, and if their answer is yes, then they’d go on and on about how hot they are and nothing about their songs at all. I just can’t with people like this. BUT of course I’ve never told this to my friends in the face! I’d be bricked! LOL
