Drinking Tip!!
Shequila! 식해 plus tequila!!!! Sounds bizarre, but honestly really, really good! I can't remember how we discovered this, but it is awesome! (and about the only way I could ever drink tequila).

whenever people try to make me drink, I usually just say I don't like the taste, but if it's someone I really don't want to offend I say alcohol makes me sick (which it does - I consider hangovers unhealthy). :)

While Australia has a big drinking culture, it's not everywhere and easier to avoid. Where as in Korea if someone older or in a higher position than you tells you to drink... you don't have much choice. And alcohol is so important for socialising there.
Haha but yeah I don't think taking wine to bed is normal here.

wouldn't it have been difficult in Aussie culture too? When I lived there people were having beers on the lawn first thing in the morning and took bags of wine with them to bed... though I did live in college...

I'm pretty good at drinking...and if you only have a few shots of tequila, everything is still more or less fine. HOWEVER: after a long night of drinking and hanging around at bars with your friends it only takes one shot of tequila and crazy stuff is bound to happen. I'm not even kidding...

I used to drink tequila once in a while. Its common as a shot here in the states and chased down with a lemon and salt. I can only describe the taste as probably being a mix of sour milk and paint thinner, burning on the way down.

He says at an actual bar it's the usual things like beer, vodka, cocktails etc. There are a lot of bars but drinking soju and eating together is much more part of the culture. Soju is everywhere but the type of place varies. Like even Korean places in Sydney vary- where you have a restaurant where the food is good (so more focus on having a meal) and you can order soju if you feel like it and then there are places which are primarily for drinking (so the soju is cheaper), you order food as well but more for snacking rather than a full meal. Those places stay open very late.

I am weird in that I do like straight tequila, but I rarely drink hard liquor anymore. It's really common as a shot in the US, but maybe I am just getting older (I'm 28 and most of my friends here are my age or older) or it is less common to order shots or even mixed drinks with the people I know in the UK. I mostly drink wine and cider here and most people I know drink wine, cider or beer.

Drinking culture does seem to vary so much from place to place. I really like it in southern Europe. Wine seemed big but getting wasted wasn't. In Brazil, I felt like everyone was a much lighter weight than me and mostly drank weak beer. Maybe it was just people I knew, but it wasn't really the drinking culture for me since I am *not* a beer fan.
