My lovely Korean friend works at a place where Buddha is a part of the restaurant name. He keeps saying puta and I always laugh. Eventually I explained what puta is and he died of laughter and embarrassment. We are close friends, so I’m glad I could show him how to pronounce B here.. He is from Busan so it makes sense ^^

It’s so funny, because portuguese people (I’m from Portugal) do the same mistake with “beaches”. We usually say “I’m going to the bitch!” Ahahah! So I tend to do do has Oegukeen boyfriend and say “beeeeeches”. It’s great to realize how sometimes the world can be so “small” and similar even though we think we are so far away and different!

I can completely relate, except english was my native language. As a small child I had learning disorder that prevented me from learning how to speak, so I didn’t learn how to even talk till I was 4 and 1/2 once I attended speech therapy. The result of that growing up is there are certain words I had trouble with: somehow I mixed up “tr” with “f”, so all neighborhood kids would ask me to say truck…and I would respond “fuck” not realizing I was pronouncing the word wrong much less saying a bad word and they would all laugh at me. I’m no longer having trouble with my “tr” and “f” sounds, but any singular word ending with “ng,” for the life of me I cannot pronounce the g. When I say “long” it sounds like “lawn” or say “sing” it sounds like “scene;” my close friends tease me about it and can notice the difference, but most people hear the context and don’t make a note of it. I just treat my mispronunciation as a cute little reminder how far I have come and accomplished.
