Thanks for that, it's really interesting. I'm always fascinated to know how other cultures handle these things. It's reallysweet that Koreans value 'skinship' so highly and is saved for relationships.
Thanks for the reply.

I think anyone who lives in Sydney will understand your annoyance at missing the train. We have to wait ages!!! It's not even like in Asia, where you only wait a few minutes T_T Even the buses! I've actually cried before because I was so annoyed at being late because of public transport, because it never goes my way and I feel bad towards my friends for being late. GAH.

In reply to <a href="https://www.mykoreanhusband.com/scared-of-me/#comment-1202">Michaela</a>.

Koreans would not use bum smacking as a way of picking up women. There is not much touching between people of opposite sex, which is why there is such a big emphasis on 'skinship' (a konglish word for touching) and there are clear boundaries.
However for relationships between children, and close friends of the same sex there is a lot of touching. Guys who are good friends will smack each other on the bum, hold hands, have arms around each other. The same with women. But it is limited between a guy and girl if they are not dating seriously.

In Australia if a guy smacked a woman on the bum that would be sexual harassment if it was unwelcome. Women would get very angry at that- especially if it's some strange guy trying to pick her up.

So Australia is similar to Korea in that unwelcome touching is wrong. However it differs when it comes to welcome touching. Australians can progress very quickly to touching without actually being in a relationship. My husband says Korean guys can get confused when an Australian girl is being touchy feely, like maybe touching their arm and maybe kissing, because a Korean guy might see that as a sign they are heading towards a relationship but for an Australian girl it might mean nothing.
