I am sure that the reason why he told you is because he felt guilt to him. Yeah, I am Korean and If I were in same situation, I would feel very sorry to him. And, I may try to make smoothie. Parents and Family is sooooooooo important to Korean. Maybe, he will expect same thing to his son or daughter what he did for his parents or your parents..This is culture difference.

Well since he is the one that moved to another country he has made the most sacrifices and has been the one to adjust his thinking the most, so I don't mind trying things in his culture sometimes :) He understands my culture as well and wouldn't force me to change anything I didn't want to.

Hmm... I can understand from his point of view but I think its also important that he understands the culture and dynamics of your family/relationship with your parents. Just because you married him does not mean you have to change your ways to suit his beliefs or do things the way he would.

HI, i found your blog today because of the bigbang's giveaway and i backtracked all your posts and i think that you and your husband is so adorable together! I wish you guys a long and happy marriage.
Im indonesian, and we basically have the same view about that kind of situation, if i said to my dad to "go and make you own smoothies" im sure my dad will go absolutely MAD and will disown me as a child. Okay maybe not. Lol. But yeah, i guess its a cultural thing. We were taught since little to obey older people, and if they asked something we should say yes and not to retort. I am amzingly surprised of how interesting culture differences are. Especially between eastern and western cultures, please keep updating us with your wonderful stories, it sure is fascinating. And your illustrations are so cute!

In reply to <a href="https://www.mykoreanhusband.com/smoothie/#comment-562">bebegreen</a>.

Hi, thanks!
My parents liked my husband from the moment they met him. I'd dated Korean guys before so the Korean thing wasn't a shock. After they met him they told me he was the best guy I'd ever dated. And now their relationship is still really good. My husband's parents told him, before they met me, that if he loves me, they will love me. So they are really sweet and understanding and they tell me that they love me all the time. There hasn't been any real problems but I realise we were very lucky that both our parents were so understanding. Sometimes we have to explain things to our parents about each other- like I'll have to explain Korean culture to my parents so they understand something my husband does and he has to explain some things about western culture to his parents but there has never been any fights or drama. Both our families have rejoiced at our relationship and everyone is really happy :)

Hi there! I love your blog and all the great drawings! it gives it something special :)
I was just wondering how your parents and your husband got along in the beginning and how they get along now? Also the same with you and his parents? :) I just ask because these cultural differences seem so familiar (i.e the one above) but, like you guys, husbands and wives seem to find a way around it all. I was just wondering if it was the same for the x-in-law and their parents in law?
