In reply to kimi. It's still really a minority though. On a whole Koreans desire pale skin which is why there is a huge industry catering for it.

I was surprised to see you with only your bathing suit on the sea. When we went to Thailand for our honeymoon I met a group of Koreans and evne the men were swimming with white long sleeved shirts to avoid the sun (to be honest after my sunburn I was jealous of not thinking of it first but anyway… )

I could see how it’d get old fast.. Right now, the weather in Florida is annoying me.. Cool one day, warm the next, though it hasn’t gotten really cold yet. it’s only gotten down to around 50F/10C here so far (at night), and it’s been averaging around 70-80F/20-25C during the daytime XP — I agree about the pics; They’re nice & refreshing. I’d love to live someplace near a gorgeous beach like that.

It makes a nice change doesn’t it! 😀 I once had some Asian ladies grab my hand when I was working at a supermarket in my hometown and they were marvelling about how white I was… I didn’t realise they meant it in a positive way at the time, given how derogatory Australians are about it.

Yeah, I used to try and get away with not wearing sunscreen when I was in high school – because no one else put any on… but the results were always terrible, so I’ve just embraced my whiteness! And I have a genetic pre-disposition to skin cancer in my family so it’s just safer to avoid the sun as much as possible – esp. given the Australian summers and the lack of ozone layer here.

In reply to Parsacarly. Yeah I've had it a lot. I find it really offensive how so many Australians are derogatory about being pale while Australia is the skin cancer capital of the world. I've been told may times that I'm too pale so it is nice when people compliment me on my skin in Korea.

I get that here in the U.S., as well. I’m a very pale person-when I went to Korea this year, I didn’t expect the number of people that told me “your skin is so white! So pretty!”. However, where I live I get more of the “you’re too pale-get out more”. As a teenager, I was always embarrassed to wear shorts in the summertime because I am so white, and it felt like the desirable trait was tan skin. However, when I tried to tan in those days, I only burnt…then I decided being tan wasn’t worth skin cancer and embraced my whiteness. 🙂
