I know the waves in Australia are probably bigger but if you can find a smaller "beginner" surf area where the water is only up to your hip or even shallower he can try surfing there. That's how shallow it was for me when I learned and it was still super fun :)

In reply to <a href="https://www.mykoreanhusband.com/surfing/#comment-10823">Monique Kowalczyk</a>.

Haha I do wonder if Korea had a swimming culture whether those type of scenes would be in there... I mean it's entirely possible that those writing the scenes are complete non-swimmers with no idea. Like I'm not a strong swimmer but I'm fine swimming in a lot rougher ocean than that... how does someone who is supposed to be good at swimming flail around in water like that???

Or perhaps it would still be written like that because it's that type of drama.

I'm currently getting through the Boys Over Flowers series (thanks to you!) and I have to say, **spolier alert**, the scene where Jan Di, the swimming scholarship student, almost drowned in 3 ft of water in New Caledonia, was painfully funny to me. She then almost drowned again the shallow end of a hotel resort pool.
Then she competed in the swimming challenge against the F4 boys and took 10mins to do her flip turn.
I think they should have chosen a different skill for her to be an expert in. One much easier to fake, like Tennis.

But then again, their chopstick skills are far superior to ours here in Australia. We all have our strengths and weaknesses.

Yeah, in America, I basically taught myself how to swim at around 11, hehe. But here in The Netherlands, kids are also taught at a young age how to swim. It makes sense, since there is so much water around. Just like Australia, I'm sure. Most major cities are close to the ocean, right?

its so weird to think people cant swim as it is compulsory at most schools in Australia. but my korean bf cant either - only doggy paddle. its hilariously gorgeous. kk. it was annoying in korea though when we went to the water-park and they made me and my aussie wear a vest in order to swim in half the pools. we were rocking safety vests in a paddling pool of 3 feet of water. it was so weird. Thank god no one took a picture. haha.

I had lessons with school, and did extra summer program ones that mum took me to also.
