I am from perth, now living in seoul - AND HATE IT! There are some awesome pools here, but the cultural requirements to use them are just beyond me. Plus, most of the best pools just sit empty. The weird locker room and shower routines that if you don't know what to do, your utterly perplexed how to even find how to get into the pool area. And once you understand what your supposed to do, you'll wish you stayed home. Why can't I just jump into the pool, do my laps, towel off and go. And this is dealing with the nicest pool at a Marriott hotel!

I'm pretty sure that most places that have water enjoy it and the people that live there have developed a swimming culture … except in Korea. It is sad to live here and see so many nice looking potential swimming areas in lakes, rivers and elsewhere and to have them all off limits.

Oh wow, I can't even remember a time when I didn't know how to swim. Whether I've lived in an apt or a house, I've almost always had a pool (and the one time I didn't, there was a public pool one block away). My elementary school was four blocks from the beach, so the entire school walked down as a field trip and spent the day there *constantly*. I honestly can't imagine my life without swimming.

Nope the fear didn't transfer, she can swim a bit she just doesn't like it enough to do more than that. An not around where I live do they teach you until you can swim at school, they rarely have the funding to take the kids to the public baths as it is. Not all school areas are the same. I don't mind boats, I just don't like going in the water.
