I have never seen a dubbed movie where the voice actors were as good as the actors on the screen. I refuse to watch them, I’d rather read the subtitles.

my daughter and i went with a korean friend to watch x-men in Seoul two weeks ago. it was subtitled in korean. i’d love to see it dubbed with Korean voices! that would be hilarious! i once saw Aladdin dubbed in French… the genie sucked.

I have done this before haha There was one time though, The Hubs and I were planning on watching an English TV show, and I was expecting it, like the majority of English tv shows on Korean TV, to be subtitled. How disappointed was I when it was dubbed in Korean. It was a science show, too, so the Korean was all stuff I didn’t know.

I always have problems watching dubbed movies in Japan. It’s just… bad. Sometimes when a new movie comes out, we get excited, go to the theater, only to find out it’s dubbed in Japanese…

It’s just… I can’t.

In reply to Nic (MyKoreanHusband). Good point! I can't imagine how difficult it must be to make subtitles, especially between English and Korean, since they are such different languages. That's one reason I always enjoyed fansubs, because they often put in little notes explaining the jokes that get lost in translation.

Also even simple things like rhyming. For example in Frozen when Olaf sings his song about summer… there is something that rhymes with puddle and the end of the next line “I’ll be a – ” you expect the word to be “puddle” but he says “happy snowman!” but he jumps over a puddle while saying it. It can’t translate to Korean at all because it’s playing on English words rhyming but deleting the rhyming word and giving a visual clue. Easy for English speaking audience, but not for a Korean audience with subtitles.
