Hi! I don´t know if you´ll read this because the post is quite old.
I really do like and enjoy your blog guys, and so do I love Jane Austen, so i´ll like to tell you Nichola about a modern adaptation of Pride and Predjudice made in videoblogs. It´s called the "Lizzie Bennet diaries" and you can watch it in youtube.
I really loved it and hope you take it a look ;).
I also think they are making another story about "Emma"

I really agree. I think Jane Austen storylines lend themselves well to Korean drama. I often find Jane Austen adaptations set in the modern world to be a bit lacking because current western culture is now so different from 200 years ago, but I think Korean drama style and Korean culture lends itself well to those stories and social norms in Jane Austen.

Hi, I am from The Netherlands, ( aka "Holland" ). I am a regular man, 59, married. I like
good old Hollywood, Westerns, Science Fiction, etc. And good Drama, plus I am not afraid of romance either. I am at home with the Jane Austen books. Those typical beautiful long Jane Austen-sentences, where
the pun is often already delivered at the end of one single sentence: I love that !

Her way of making the characters of human beings transparant on top of that makes her work universal and of
alltimes. I like the film-adaptons too, with Pride & Prejudice 1995 the best of all. I am one of the few male members of a Dutch Jane Austen forum. But not always as active as I would like to be.
Because...

A forumbuddy from a Canadian forum, dedicated to old Canadian stories, lived in Korea in 2009, teaching English at young scholars. She spoke about Korean movies and dramas. I tried some during nightshifts
at work at the airport, when it was very quiet between 1 and 4. Just for fun, and out of curiosity. Something that would last a few weeks, nothing more.
And now, 4 years later, I have rarely watched anything else beside Korean drama's and movies.
Because I got hooked.

I am not for real hard horror, neither too sweet "flowerboy" -stuff.Middle of the road, kind of.

Science-fiction I will not expect in Korean drama. But with the rama-part, I think the Korean drama-writers win from their Hollywood collegues. Like the Hong Sisters, how they are able to mix humor,
suspense, magic, romance and drama at the same time is superior !
The basic line in Jane Austen is": Poor girl with independent character wins the heart of the man from a much higher class" . That line is visible in many KDramas, specially the older ones. ( Full House, BOF, Secret Garden , to name a few )
Alot of them can compete with film-adaptions of Jane Austen's books, drama-wise and because of the excellent acting of the Korean casts.I have been wondering many times how Jane Austen is valued in Korea.

One of the old Canadian stories from the Canadian forum is " Anne of Green Gables", from 1908.
I know that story is very popular in Japan, but also in Taiwan and Korea. There is a lot of "Pride and Prejudice" woven into that story !

I hope I added my 50 cents/won with this comment.
And now I will start to imagine which Jane Austen-protagonist would fit Moon Geun Young best.
Fanny Price in Mansfield Park ?

( Ps; Just before this comment,I also posted on another Korean/American blog, using the same content. I hope you don't mind ! )

this is great! i love pride and prejudice and my husband does too ^^ we both consider it one of our favorite movies. maybe because my husband is so open to new experiences and doesn't quite have the kind of socially preconceived notions that other guys might, we have a lot more interests in common even though we are from different cultures... it's really fun :)

That should be an awesome experience. Although I've spent some time in Korea (but we are based in Australia for now) a lot of it was also spent in a rural area with my husband's family so I haven't seen all there is to see in Korea yet.
But things to definitely see: the palaces in Seoul. I was lucky enough to see a drama being filmed at one of the palaces.
As well as palaces there are other historical places to see that are really interesting to see.
Seoul Tower is a must- particularly for couples but it's completely fine to go on your own. Though it's usually hazy in Seoul it still gives a good panoramic view and there are the famous messages on locks that people do and put on the fence.
If you are interested in in North Korea go to the DMZ which is not far from Seoul and you can look over the border at North Korea.
There is.cheonggyecheon which is a beautiful restored creek that runs through the middle of Seoul. At night it is lit up prettily with lights and you'll see many couples sitting there like in a Korean drama.
Insadong is seen as a more tourist area but it's really nice and a good mix of modern and old fashioned stuff. It is particularly good for pretty and handmade jewelry.
Those are just a few places off the top of my head :)
