Way more taboo than in Australia. I’ve made mistakes more than once in social situations with Koreans by saying something vaguely about sex and it’s awkward! TV is heavily censored in Korea too. Once the alcohol is flowing it often changes and people may talk about sex, but yeah generally in a non drunk situation it’s not talked about much.

But if it’s children.. then … *shakes my head* STAY INNOCENT KIDDOS. Is sex a really taboo subject in Korea? Like do they just never talk about in the public sphere?

Yeah, it’s not just you. It’s really quite vulgar and I think it’s mostly naughty children making those signs. I’m hoping adults aren’t seriously making those signs anyway! haha

Oh. That makes sense… However, I just find the idea of speaking about sex through hand movements even more awkward and slightly somewhat even more vulgar .. or is it just me? But yes, it’s definitely a cultural thing because I’ve never seen anyone use that as insinuating sex. I’m more familiar with the western sign (I’m from Australia too!)

Hmm, yeah, i guess i did kinda guess that may have been part of it. But also making it less visually obvious.
Yeah, perhaps they meant it was the original way to do it, at least in Korea lol.

See, i’m so super observant! The bit that made me unsure was that some of the speech bubbles on the right have double shadows, so looks like was sketched by hand, then traced and darkened on the computer.

Yeah original makes no sense at all. Unless they mean that it’s the normal way? I don’t know. That hand gesture is not new or original thought. Apparently rather than show an obvious movement like the western hand sign, it is more about the sound. So that type of sound is like the sound when people have…um.. coitus.
