Growing up in New York, and living in a mostly Italian, Irish and Jewish neighborhood, I got to enjoy some seriously incredible food. Unfortunately, after moving away, I have consigned to eating what can only be described as poor imitation of the wonderful dishes I had then. Sadly, my wife and kids will not know what they’ve been missing. Unless of course when we visit my folks who still live there.

I love pasta and used to cook a lot of things with it, had to cut back because it’s not really good to eat too much pasta…goes straight to your hips! A good pasta sauce doesn’t have to be complicated but it’s also very easy to mess it up if you use the wrong sort of thing for it. Shame that pasta wasn’t so good but at least you got to see the film.

In reply to Nic (MyKoreanHusband). Ha! Its funny you should say that! My sister read it with her book club and then they went and saw the film after. I personally havent seen/read it, but when she was describing the story I said to her "sounds like a korean drama story" lol. I am not allowed to go and see movies like that in the cinema because i cry too much and it gets embarrassing. oops :P

it took me sooooo long to find a good woodfired/artisan-style pizza in korea and now i lament that i will only be going back for holidays so will likely never go back to that neighbourhood. *sigh* But I NEVER EVER EVER found good pasta in korea. and I cant believe how much of them put tomato sauce (ketchup i mean) as a large component of the pasta sauce. *BLEGH* and the same goes for the liquid cheese stuff with chips or nachos. omg food-death. 🙁

I’m sorry that you can’t get great western food there. It’s kind of like Asian places here in the US. You can’t ever really find an AMAZING place for anything. But I’m sure it’s better than whatever you got. 🙁 I have yet to see A Fault in Our Stars, and it’s been out for a while here! I loved the book, would you say it’s faithful to the book? 🙂 Hope your stomachs are feeling better!

In reply to Ahleah Yaworski. Yup I read the book, I liked the movie too. I think the Korean audience is pretty responsive to it. It reminds me of other movies that Koreans tend to like.
