Snapshot of my day: Our Neighbourhood

Snapshot of my day – Our Neighbourhood

Now that my morning sickness is going I feel I can get out more so I can film more snapshot of my day videos for the Nicholalala YouTube channel. These videos are mini vlogs with no talking, but showing moments through my day. We really love the area we live in and love days when we can organize everything we need to do to be in this area.

Every time we pass by YG Entertainment we can see the construction work that is being done on the new fancy building.  At the moment it’s still just basement and foundation construction it seems. We’ll vlog more of it when there are more interesting things happening there.

We had a meeting for the comic book that if finally coming out for the Korean market. It’s been in limbo for such a long time, but will be coming soon! It’s in Korean but there will be some English as well. We stopped by the new Talk to Me in Korean offices. They are in the process of setting them up but it’s a great space! We had lunch with Hyunwoo and everyone as well. Hyunwoo also gave me their new book, ‘My first 500 Korean words” which I’m going to work through soon. I haven’t been able to do much study for a while and vocabulary is definitely something I struggle with. I’m aiming to get a lot more Korean study in now while I can.

Since Hugh has lost so much weight we really needed to buy him some new clothes. He was surprised to find that he fits into the small size now. We were also at a party yesterday and many people didn’t recognize him at first because he has lost so much weight.

I’ll try to do more of these videos for the Nicholalala channel now that I’m feeling a lot better. As I’ve mentioned in videos, it hasn’t just been pregnancy that has prevented me from doing a lot, but treatment for illness and then infertility treatments to actually get pregnant. I’ll be talking about those things later on the main channel.

Alice walks into YG Entertainment to ask if Bigbang is there

4 year old walks into YG Entertainment to ask if BIGBANG is there.

Most people will know Sophie and Han’s daughter Alice from several of our videos. The other week Sophie, Alice and baby Gyo were visiting us and the walk from the bus stop goes past YG Entertainment. Alice likes Bigbang and has even been to a Bigbang concert before so she knows the YG building as “Bigbang’s house”. As we were walking back from the shops and passing YG, Alice was asking about Bigbang. We told her that as it’s a Sunday they won’t be there (which is usually true). Since she is so confident she decided to walk right into the YG driveway and ask the security guard if they were there. The security guard was very nice to her but told her they aren’t there. Usually fans are stopped before getting that far but they let her in and the security guard had a smile on his face. Alice speaks more Korean than English so the whole exchange was in Korean.

I posted this video on Instagram and it got a great response so decided to post it on YouTube too. So many people relate to Alice wanting to see Bigbang. Even some Kpop news sites picked up the story.

Thank you to everyone for all the positive comments across social media. Her mother’s Instagram is here.

Here is a photo of Alice earlier in the day:

How much do you wish that you had the confidence of a 4 year old? haha

Moving next week!

In this video we talk about finding somewhere to live in Seoul and moving next week! We looked at a bunch of places and the best place ended up being in Hapjeong, which is a really cool place to live. Very hipster now. While Hongdae has the night life and clubs and that more commercialized type of vibe now, Hapjeong has cool cafes and bakeries and small venues for musicians. We are very close to the Han river and in a residential area, as well as being weirdly close to YG, which is interesting considering how much I like and always mention YG artists.

As we said in the video, our deposit seems huge but is actually on the lower end in Korea. You are just expected to put down these huge deposits for places, and in some cases, the bigger deposit you have, the less rent you actually pay. People borrow money from the bank, or parents or save up for these deposits. What we are paying monthly for rent is very cheap compared to Sydney. While Koreans might say our rent is expensive, for us it’s a pretty good price. The place is small, of course, but it’s a good space and we like the layout. You’ll see it in a house tour video later.

We are really excited to move to Seoul! We can’t wait to make videos about all the stuff we are doing in Seoul and the area we’ll be living in. Stay tuned!
