This comic is about dumb things I say. When I hear numbers my brain just goes……bleahhhhhghhhhhhhhh! I have serious maths phobia. (By the way, we say ‘Maths’ in Australian English but ‘Math’ is used in American English). My husband is the one that has been paying attention to how many Facebook likes recently. I wouldn’t have even realised that the increase was about the same number as the amount of likes I had slowly reached over 10 months.

So yes, as most of you are aware, there has been an explosion of new readers! This all happened because of a news article that was put onto several Korean news sites. I’m really surprised at the attention because I really just write for just a broad international audience and didn’t think that many Koreans would be that interested, but I’ve had a really great positive response.

This has lead to more interviews and attention and I’ve been offered a book deal by a Korean publishing company. I don’t want to just print out the comics that are on the blog, so instead it will hopefully be our full story of how we met and lots of other stuff that has happened to us (in comic form). Still lots of funny stuff, but some sad stuff too. I’m really happy to have this offer.

Blogging and making comics has lead to some other work that is pretty exciting too, so my life is suddenly getting a lot busier. Although I may have to cut back on how many comics I make, I definitely won’t neglect the blog. I always read every single comment but lately I haven’t been able reply to every single one, but please know that I read them and I’m so grateful to everyone that comments. I always remember peoples’ screen names too, especially those that have been commenting since the early days of the blog.

Cook Something

Cook Something

I fall for this every time. He hates cooking (though he doesn’t mind cleaning) and will do whatever it takes to make me cook instead of him. This is not a representation of Korean men in general. I actually know many Korean guys who love cooking and are really passionate about food. My husband is passionate about food, but only eating it, not cooking it.

I realise after that he set me up with the “Oh I’m a sad little boy just eating one tin of tuna” act because he’ll do his “happy I love you hugging dance” after I agree to cook something.

Wrist Grab

Wrist Grab

Yes, the Korean guy wrist grab thing again. It doesn’t just happen in Korean dramas, it happens in real life too. It does annoy me a bit so I grabbed his wrist and dragged him to show him what it’s like but he thwarted me by claiming he likes it! He may be lying…

What do you think?

Rockpools at Night

Rockpools at Night

This was over Christmas when we stayed in a holiday house near the beach. Whenever we were walking on the beach my husband would ask, “Can we eat it?” for almost everything he saw. My family goes to the beach and enjoys swimming and relaxing, but my husband sees it as an opportunity to find food. His attempt at catching squid was unsuccessful because the ocean was too rough, but we did see others catch a lot a few days earlier, so maybe next time.

We had a really fun time looking in rock pools though, especially at night. The octopus freaked us out. Well, freaked me out. I have this half joking fear that giant octopuses will one day take over the world. This is why I don’t eat baby octopuses in Korean seafood hotpot because when octopuses take over the world I’m going to be like “I didn’t eat your babies! Don’t kill me!” All my friends know my theory and laugh at me. So I was a bit scared when my husband caught the octopus in the bucket. Which a bit out of character for me, I’m not scared of animals and I’m trained as a zoo keeper so I’ve handled plenty of animals. Octopus though…. they are just so smart. This octopus we caught was easily crawling out of the bucket, and when we put it back it changed it’s colour to match the rocks in the rockpool. Freaky.

My husband was sad he couldn’t eat it and we really had to force him to put it back. Even though I’ve explained that you can’t just take everything from the environment, sometimes he thinks with his stomach. We were also lucky that it wasn’t a Blue-ringed Octopus which are deadly.

Anyway, go watch some Youtube videos about octopus and see how smart they are.

Naver Stop

Naver Stop

If you weren’t aware, Naver is the search portal most South Koreans use. Which is why a lot of Koreans look at me oddly when I say “Google it” or “I was googling….” Koreans also watch a lot of videos on Naver so Youtube videos of Kpop groups on Youtube are not always representative of what is actually popular in Korea.

Anyway, my husband has been giggling lately at Koreans thinking that “naver” is how “never” is spelled. A Korean soccer player also did it on Cyworld (yet another just Korean thing) and wrote “naver stop” instead of “never stop”. I think my husband thinks it’s funny because they must think that the big website they all use means “never” in English.

Kakao Story is connected to Kakao Talk (instant messaging service on phones) which is Korean but anyone can use it. My husband is always on there. I don’t use it though because I have to manage so many social networks for this blog, I don’t need another one!

Practising Singing

Practising

This is his obsession at the moment. Yesterday he spent hours singing along. I don’t mean casually singing along for fun, I mean seriously trying to remember all the words and hit all the notes. He is not a bad singer, but he does it with earphones in so all I’m hearing is his voice, so it can be kinda funny. But yeah…. he is a much better singer than me actually.

As you know, I usually don’t do a comic on Sundays, but since the fan base is growing I thought I might try to have something uploaded every single day. I make about 6 comics a week, what’s one more? Haha.
