Racism in Korea

Serious topic! As with any serious topic, there are many aspects and we can’t cover all of them. We talk about where we feel Korea is at right now in regards to racism, our experiences and some of the things people should know when talking about racism in Korea. Also we talk about how it’s good to also look at racism in our own countries and what needs to be improved as well.

Talking about Tea

Talking about Tea

Yes we have conversations about tea. Yeah Aussie girls! (With British heritage). Cuppa just means “a cup of tea”. I drink so many cups of tea.

Also, speaking about the word “tea”, when Mr Gwon first stayed with my parents, he got confused because my mum also calls dinner “tea”. And then to be more confusing, my nanna called lunch “dinner” and dinner is “tea”. And then we also drink lots of tea!

Update and Vlogs

So I took a few days off because I wasn’t well, but feeling better now. Because Hugh was in Seoul we didn’t have time to edit a Wednesday video but we have TWO vlogs today.

Michael Bolton

michael bolton

Cheese music! I kinda want that on a t-shirt…

Michael Bolton was recently in Korea and there was a TV show and Korean singers did his songs……. I don’t know, I didn’t really watch it haha. But it made Mr Gwon go and watch a lot of Michael Bolton stuff. As much as I laugh at him liking a lot of cheesy music, especially 80’s music, I think it’s great that he just unashamedly likes whatever he wants to like. I notice that in Korean society as well. Compared to Australian culture, where there is a lot of shaming about tastes in music, Koreans seem to be a lot freer to watch and like whatever they want, no matter what their gender.

Milo

Today’s comic is not from me, it’s from Chloe! I’m not well today so I didn’t go to Seoul, (but Mr Gwon did), so I didn’t make a comic. But Chloe made one about a KakaoTalk conversation we had. She was craving milo (a chocolate powder for milk from Australia) and I happened to have some milo so we joked about me giving her some in a back alley way like it’s drugs because there isn’t much of it in Korea.

For those that aren’t sure who Chloe is yet, she is Daniel’s girlfriend and lives in Korea. We often talk about the things we miss from Australia.

homesick

You can check out her art Instagram and Tumblr. Like Sophie, she is going to do the occasional comic for the blog. It’s kinda weird right? We all draw, we are all from the same region in Australia and we are all with Korean men. We are hoping we can do a big joint project in the future.

If you live in Korea, what do you get cravings for that is hard to get?
