The Sausage Guys

For those who haven’t heard this saying: it means when you go out or are at a party and there are almost no girls at all. It’s especially bad if the guys are hoping to meet girls and there are only guys.

Mr Gwon knows this saying but sometimes says “sausage party” instead. He knows a bunch of guys who every time they go out are too shy to talk to any girls even though they want to meet girls. Mr Gwon and one other friend are the only ones confident enough to talk to girls but are also the only ones with partners and are not interested to talking to girls!

Even if Mr Gwon and his friend introduce girls to these guys, they just sit there in stunned silence. But then… the next time they go out they want him to go talk to girls and bring the girls over to them again.

Every time he goes out with these guys it has been a “sausage fest” but he has decided to take that saying and use it in a different way and now calls those guys “the sausage guys” because it will always be a sausage fest with them because they are incapable of talking to any girls at all. He gets really annoyed about it.

I think it’s pretty funny Konglish. I really hope it catches on and groups of guys who want to talk to girls but never make a move, and just stare awkwardly, get called “sausage guys”.

It’s even funnier when he says it with a strong Korean accent and it becomes “sau-sage-jeeee”.

Colour

I don’t even remember what I was saying that caused him to say that. Apparently it’s said in a dismissive way when someone is being too boastful, like “Yeah yeah, you are so great, your poo has colour but my poo has no colour.” Some Korean things don’t translate well…. haha.

Googling Yourself

Actually he was on Naver…. so that’s navering??? I think he said in Korean they say something more like, “Ask Naver.”

He does check to see where our stuff does show up. Some people talk about us on blogs. Some positive, some dumb comments of course… it’s the internet. Because this blog is all in English he does keep an eye on what is said in Korean or what gets translated. We do get a lot of Korean visitors interested but don’t have the English skills to understand the comics. When the comic book is released in Korea next year they’ll be able to read them though.

Yes Sir

Now your perception of what is rude in this comic might be different depending what culture you are from. You may think that him calling me a pig and making pig noises is the rude thing, or you may think me whacking him with a towel is the rudest (I changed it from hitting his head so it wouldn’t be too rude). One of the reasons why trying to understand cultural differences is important.

Mr Gwon does get into really rude and cheeky moods sometimes. He will say “Yes Sir” sometimes when I get bossy because he knows it annoys me. Then he further annoyed me by saying my pet name is pig, even though I know it’s cute in Korean, I know he is doing it to get a reaction because he added the pig noises. It’s very different from when he lovingly calls me his honey pig other times. He also knew that I was likely to whack him with something too. So I got my revenge when he cried “ouchies” like a little kid. Then we had a good laugh.

Dumblings

I was laughing mostly because “dumblings” sounds funny!

I’m back studying Korean again, well revising everything that I know (not much!), in preparation for when we move to Korea. We’ve decided once in Korea it’s vital for me to learn as much Korean as possible so Korean will be the language we’ll use the most when there. It will be hard, but worth it.
