Bossy

Bossy

I’ve mentioned before about the way he can be ‘grabby’ in a spontaneous burst of affection way. Not all Korean guys are like this, but if you’ve watched enough Korean romantic dramas you know exactly what I’m talking about.

I used to think the female characters in Korean dramas were too easily annoyed and pissed off all the time when the male lead does something but now I can understand that reaction. It can be annoying. My husband will sometimes do it to deliberately annoy me too, but claim he is just being romantic.

I just shoved him off again because I won’t put up with the bossy romantic act. He then cackled to himself, “Haha I think I’m really funny.”

City Hunter

city hunter

We usually have different tastes in Korean dramas. A Gentleman’s Dignity was one that we both agreed on and now we are watching City Hunter. While we are both enjoying it so far, he gets frustrated on those slower scenes with…. feelings and all that haha.

There’s a lot of dramas I’d like to watch but our internet has been terrible so it’s too frustrating (out of our control and hopefully we’ll move soon). My husband borrows some DVDs from a friend at work but most had such terrible English subtitles that I’d yell at the screen. Finally we got the City Hunter one and the subtitles are good, so slowly working our way through it.

What are you watching now?

(Also, I had to draw a very simple comic for this post because we are both sick with horrendous colds! It’s the middle of summer and it’s terrible being inside and sick like this).

Carry You

carry youHe does actually pick me up a lot and it’s not romantic like in the dramas. It’s usually more like “Ahhh put me down! It’s hurting me! Ahhh!” That’s why I just pushed him away when he wanted to pick me up and carry me again. And I was watching the drama!

We haven’t been able to watch many dramas lately because our internet connection, for reasons outside our control, is pretty terrible right now (not fun when you are a blogger!). Tried a few DVDs but most have really bad subtitles so I feel like I’ve missed out on a lot recently. Also it’s hard finding the time to watch together. I can’t wait until we have better internet and the time to watch Korean dramas together.

Some Days

(remember these comics are just about my experiences and not a guide to all Korean men! haha)

Oh the difference between TV and reality! Funnily enough though, the other week when out with Korean friends, the girls told me I was lucky that my husband was always well dressed and well groomed. I just laughed because they have seen him at his best- which isn’t often. Sometimes it’s a real stand off because I want him to change into something nicer before we go out and he seems to think it’s such an effort.

I have noticed a difference between guys in Korea and Korean guys in Australia who are on working holiday or student visas. There is less pressure in Australia to look good and if they are busy working or studying they don’t care as much. Where as actually in Korea you will see some amazingly stylish men and more emphasis on fashion.

I think my husband is still stuck in “working holiday mode” although he is actually a resident now.

I actually didn’t start watching Korean dramas until after I met my husband. So when I did it was like, “What? They are supposed to look like that?!”

I shouldn’t be too hard on him, he’d much rather buy me something pretty rather than spend any money on clothes for himself.

Korean Drama Arm Grab

Arm Grab

I have no idea why they do this… I guess just cultural difference where it’s completely fine to grab someone’s arm or wrist like that and drag them in the direction you want to go. If an Australian guy did this to me I would assume he was really angry with me and I’d likely get defensive and slap him. I’ve said a few times to my husband that when he does it to me in Australia it does kinda look like he is an abusive husband dragging me somewhere!

But like many things, it’s just different in Korea and this type of movement is shown a lot in Korean drama. Either dragging the girl somewhere to talk or pulling her in for a kiss.

All my comics are about real things that happened and the above one is no exception So although my husband does do the arm grab thing it is usually in a mundane situation like that. No romantic kisses or dramatic confessions.
